Once a year, Beavers from around the globe come together for Dam Proud Day, an annual 24-hour online fundraising event dedicated to building a better, stronger, more inclusive Oregon State University. This year’s Dam Proud Day – the second at Oregon State – will take place on April 28.
Funds raised during this event will directly support the College of Science’s Student Emergency Fund. This fund supports science students experiencing financial difficulties that may inhibit their ability to continue classes.
College of Science students strive every day to build a better world through scientific discovery. They explore solutions to coral bleaching, track the spread of infectious diseases, analyze big data to solve big problems and advance renewable energy solutions.
Yet this past year has been hard. For many of our students and their families, lost jobs have resulted in extreme financial hardships, forcing students and families to choose to between food and housing security and a college career.
But through the recently created Student Emergency Fund, the College of Science is making it possible for students to continue their studies. This past year, the College has provided more than $110K in grants to help students pay bills, buy books, put food on the table and stay in school.
On April 28, we can raise funds to help even more science students achieve their dreams to build a better world.
Two years ago, Oregon State University held its first Dam Proud Day, raising more than $622K for 68 different funds -- $38K for the College of Science. More than 2,700 donors from more than 43 states and ten countries participated.
Extraordinary times require extraordinary action. Together, the College of Science community of students, alumni, family and friends can ensure that the dreams and ambitions of all our students are not constrained by their financial resources.
