First-Year College Bucket List

Here's what our students say you must have on your college bucket list!

Your first year will fly by. We asked some of our students about their college bucket list for the first year. Here’s what they said.

  • Join a science student club or organization (our College has dozens!) or explore a plethora of other OSU clubs and organizations.
  • Find all of the science tutoring centers. You never know when you will need one.
  • Connect with a professor outside of the classroom.
  • Do research. It is mind-blowing and brings learning to life.
  • Ask a librarian at Valley Library for help with a research project.
  • Attend an event at one of OSU’s seven cultural centers.
  • Cheer on the Beavers at an athletic event, whether it’s our football team, our nationally ranked basketball or baseball teams, gymnastic teams or others. Go BEAVS!
  • Check out the OSU Craft Center – from ceramics to woodworking to digital arts, papermaking and more. It’s free and a great way to manage stress.

Things to do before you graduate

Once you settle into life as a science student, there are even more things that await you. Below are some things to do before you graduate, inspired by OSU's very own lifestyle magazine, Beaver Digest.

  1. Visit the papusa tent at the Saturday market downtown.
  2. Enjoy dinner/drinks on the rooftop of Sky High Brewing.
  3. Grab some late-night Mexican food from Riva's. “The later it is, the better it tastes.”
  4. Wake up before sunrise on a clear Monday in June and hike Bald Hill; it'll change your whole week!
  5. Experience either the sunrise or the sunset at Mary’s Peak, the highest point in Benton county and 11th highest in the state of Oregon.
  6. Take a class because it sounds interesting, not just because it’s easy.
  7. Hold some sort of volunteer position — whether it’s on campus or in the Corvallis community!
  8. Take a roadtrip to: the Oregon Coast, Bend, a rival game in Eugene, or anywhere else Highway 99 and I-5 can take you.
  9. Enjoy a bus ride — FREE for OSU students — to beautiful nearby communities like Albany and Philomath.
  10. Go to at least one Oregon State vs. University of Oregon football game... the experience is legendary!
